The journey began with our founder, Grant Montour, whose passion for the food industry started at a young age. Growing up in a family that owned restaurants, Grant learned the ins and outs of running a business. At 18, he was given the opportunity to manage his own taco cart—a small endeavor that planted the seeds for his future career.

A Culinary Journey
Grant’s passion for food led him through various culinary roles, from cook to executive chef, working in hotel restaurants and eventually leading corporate dining for Wells Fargo. These experiences sharpened his skills and deepened his love for delivering exceptional food.
A Life-Changing Turn
In 2014, life took an unexpected turn when Grant’s daughter required a heart transplant. Caring for her recovery became his full-time focus, leading him to leave his traditional job. With a need for flexibility and a desire to keep his culinary dreams alive, Grant looked back to his roots—the taco cart.
The Birth of Roadside Tacos
What began as a camper revamp quickly grew into a celebrated food truck. Since its inception, Roadside Tacos has become a beloved part of the Des Moines food scene, known for its incredible flavors and seamless event catering.
